WVCS Visitor Management
West Valley Christian School uses the Raptor Visitor Management System to enhance campus safety and security for students and faculty.
Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. The Raptor system better allows us to track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our school and provides us with a safer environment for our students and staff. Parents, even those who visit regularly or are attending a meeting or volunteering, are considered visitors.
If you have any questions please contact Jeremiah Hann at jhann@wvchristianschool.org or 623-234-2100.
RAPTOR OVERVIEW
Upon entering the WVCS office, visitors will be asked by a school monitor to present a valid state-issued ID (such as a driver’s license, U.S. military card, U.S. passport, or permanent resident card), which will be scanned into the system. It is important to note that the Raptor system only scans the visitor's name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Additional visitor data from the driver's license is not gathered nor is the system connected to any other system such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. Therefore, any other information on the ID is not scanned by the system and is not accessible to any users. Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. The Raptor visitor management system provides a consistent way to aid in keeping away people who may present a danger to our students and staff. Therefore, all visitors and volunteers to the school must be scanned into the system and obtain a visitor badge.
A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. West Valley Christian School staff reserves the right to deny anyone entry to the building.
RAPTOR FAQ
What is the Raptor System?
Raptor is a visitor management system that enhances school security by reading a visitor’s approved government-issued ID (driver’s license, U.S. military card, U.S. passport, or permanent resident card), comparing name and date of birth to the national sex offender database to alert school administrators if a match is found.
Once cleared through the system, a visitor badge is produced that includes a photo, name of the visitor, date, destination on campus, and time. These badges will allow WVCS Staff to quickly determine if visitors are in areas where they should or should not be.
How does Raptor work?
Driver’s license information is compared to a database that consists of registered sex offenders from all 50 states, as well as local flags placed into Raptor by a school site. If a match is found, campus administrators and law enforcement personnel can take appropriate steps to keep the campus safe.
Does WVCS have the right to require visitors, even parents, to produce identification before entering the school?
Yes. School officials need to know who is in the building and why are they there; particularly when students are involved, school officials must be able to confirm that an individual is authorized to have access to that student.
What types of ID’s will work in Raptor?
The scanner can scan all US government-issued IDs: driver’s licenses, active military cards, and passport cards (not the full passport book). It does not officially scan ID’s from other countries.
What other information is the school taking from these ID’s?
Raptor is only scanning the visitor’s name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Visitor data is not shared with any outside company or organization.
What does a visitor do if he/she doesn’t have a government-issued ID?
Visitors without a government-issued ID will only be allowed entrance to the school if identification can be established using first and last name, and date of birth. A school administrator can question the individual and explain the process to them. The administrator, based on the knowledge of the person and situation, can decide to allow entry or refuse access to the facility.
What is the process for visitors leaving the building?
The checkout process doesn’t involve scanning the ID card again. WVCS staff will find the name of the person who is signing out and manually sign them out through the Raptor system. This provides a record of entry and departure and time on campus. All visitors must exit and check out in the WVCS Office.
What if a ‘hit’ on the Raptor system occurs? What is the protocol?
The system will automatically notify the school administration of a response. WVCS Administration will review the identification of the potential match and verify via a picture on ID and picture in the Raptor database. If a match is confirmed, or a potential match remains a concern, WVCS Administrator will communicate with the visitor and confer with Goodyear Police for additional information regarding the issue.
Will the Raptor system be used for after-school activities?
No. The system will only be used during normal school office hours.
